In June 1997 the British Columbia Office of the Auditor General released a report containing performance audits of BC Transit. The two major topics covered were: BC Transit: Managing Operator Productivity and BC Transit: Its Success as a Market-focused Organization.

The reports are available in disjointed, incomplete Adobe Acrobat form from the Auditor General's web site. A summary is also available. Copies may also be ordered (ask for 1996-97 Report 9) as follows:

By e-mail.

By phone: In Victoria: (250)387-6803, and through Enquiry BC, in Vancouver: (604)660-2421, elsewhere in British Columbia: 1-800-663-7867.

The report makes many useful recommendations and includes BC Transit's generally positive responses to them. It is quite clear that BC Transit's Victoria operation has a significant head start over the Vancouver operation in being more productive, keeping better records, and being market-driven.
