History
Transport 2000 was formed in 1972 in Great Britain as a
volunteer consumer movement to oppose the destruction of the
environment by over-reliance on roads and to promote public
transportation. Since then, Transport 2000 and associated groups
have been established in France, Switzerland, the United States
and Canada.
Transport Action Canada (now Transport-Action Canada) was formed in 1976 as a federation of
regional associations dedicated to the promotion of public
transport in Canada. Transport Action Canada volunteers maintain a
national office in downtown Ottawa. Regional associations are
active in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba,
Ontario, Québec, and the Atlantic region.
In October 2009 Transport 2000 Canada became Transport Action Canada.
In February 2010 Transport 2000 British Columbia officially changed its
name to Transport Action BC.
