Rail Improvements Required South of Vancouver

There are ongoing concerns about rail infrastructure south of Vancouver and its ability to support improved passenger and freight rail service and improve safety for trackside communities. Additional sidings, rail flyovers, a second Amtrak platform at Pacific Central Station, Grandview Cut, and the New Westminster Rail Bridge require significant senior government investments.

Some of these improvements are discussed in Transport Action Canada’s report Beyond HFR: Advancing Passenger Rail Across Canada (Section 8.3). The Carney government has called for nation-building projects and some of these certainly fit with that criteria. Transport Action B.C. has written letters to various Transport Ministers with little effect. The latest was a letter to current federal Transport Minister, Chrystia Freeland.
