Adding insult to injury, Marc Laliberté, VIA Rail Canada’s President and CEO, spoke Oct 5 in Vancouver about the role that passenger rail can and will play in building a sustainable future to the attendees of the Gaining Ground 2010 conference. He touted the near $1 billion investment made in the VIA system since 2007. However, for the most important intercity rail corridor serving the country’s third largest city, the government seems unwilling to help.
